Biden elected, congratulations from Putin

Despite the deleterious relations between the United States and Russia, Vladimir Putin congratulated Joe Biden on Tuesday, December 15, on his election to the American presidency. He also said he wanted to collaborate with him. “For my part, I am ready for collaboration and contacts with you,” he wrote in a telegram, according to a statement from the Kremlin.

The Russian president is one of the few leaders to have waited for the vote of the American electoral college in favor of Joe Biden to congratulate him, explaining this gesture by the uncertainty weighing on the result of the ballot on November 4 given the refusal of Donald Trump to recognize his defeat and his multiple legal remedies. “Vladimir Putin wished the elected president success and expressed his conviction that Russia and the United States (…) can, despite their disagreements, solve many problems and challenges” in the world, added the Kremlin in its statement.

Joe Biden has promised to be firm against Russia, accused in particular of interference in the American electoral system to promote the election of Donald Trump in 2016. The American billionaire has always denied having benefited from Russian efforts, just like Vladimir Putin, despite the conclusions of American investigators which led to heavy sanctions against Russia.
