Storm Beryl is now classified as a “post-tropical cyclone,” according to an update from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Weather Prediction Center.
The center of post-tropical cyclone Beryl was near Jonesboro, Arkansas, with winds of 30 mph (48 km/h) and even stronger gusts.
Despite Beryl’s new classification, it still poses a significant threat of flooding and tornadoes across parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley as it moves through Tuesday.
Destruction in Texas
Drone footage showed homes surrounded by floodwaters and a roofless residence after Beryl passed through Surfside Beach, Texas, on Monday (8).
The storm also flooded roads, closed oil ports, disrupted more than 1,300 flights and cut power to more than 2.7 million homes and businesses.
