Belgium and the Netherlands plan to deliver more heavy weapons to Ukraine in the run-up to Russia’s attack on Donbas, the prime ministers of the two EU member states, Alexander de Kro and Mark Rutte, told a joint news conference.
The two countries will work with other partners for this purpose, they added without specifying with whom.
Mr de Croes described the escalation of violence in Donbass as an “absolute nadir” for Europe, saying sanctions against Russia would be “even tougher” and “have an impact”. “But that will take more time,” he added.
However, both Mr de Cro and Mr Rutte appeared to be wary of Ukraine’s rapid accession to the European Union. They noted that the country should be rebuilt first, and said that the EU should provide comprehensive assistance to it.
