The trial against the imprisoned Mayor of Heimarra Freddy Beleris continued today. The testimonies of the prosecution’s witnesses were in order, a total of 8. 7 testified. The first to testify were the police commander Himarras and the much-discussed witness Arsen Rama. Rama, who he was taken to the courtroom under security asked to testify behind closed doors, because as ihe was injured, his life and that of his family are threatened.
His request was accepted by the judiciary. Rama is the key witness in the case for the prosecutionaccording to what her correspondent relays ERT in Albania, Panagiotis Barkas, because he was the person that the police, first and then the prosecutor’s office, had promoted to the environment of Beleris, before his arrest on May 12. The police director of Heimarra in his testimony accepted that Rama was funded for the services he provided to the police and the prosecutor’s office and that this is provided for by law.
Two voters also testified at the trial today who said they were promised money in exchange for voting for Beleris.
The testimony of the witnesses began with a delay because the Beleris defense again requested the exception of the judiciary, as soon as it announced that the request of the defense to declare the case file invalid due to the procedures followed, is not based on the law.
Tthe judiciary directed the defense to file the new request for exception of the judiciary at the court registry and continued the session normally.
Freddy Beleris was also present at the trial. The trial was closely monitored by the Greek embassy in Tirana and other representatives from Greece. Family members, political representatives and others were also present.
According to known procedures the trial is expected to continue tomorrow 08/11/2023 with the testimony of the defense witnesses a total of 12.
Regarding the Beleris case, today there was also an announcement of the decision of the Supreme Court of the country to which the Beleris defense had appealed with the request for his release from prison. The ruling says that this case should be heard anew by the anti-corruption and organized crime court, which is also hearing the case on the ground.
