Beijing recently asked South Korean companies not to export products manufactured by the use of rare China earths to US defense companies, Korea Economic Daily, citing government and corporate sources, revealed today. According to the report, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce conveyed this message to letters to South Korean companies producing transformers, batteries, screens, electric vehicles, aerospace and medical equipment. In the manufacture of all these products, these important minerals are used. The letters note that South Korean companies can be imposed if they violate export restrictions, according to the newspaper.
