For all the women who have always wanted to be a Barbie, in a world of Barbie, now is the right time. With the release of the live action remake Barbie the movie of Greta Gerwig with Margot Robbie, Airbnb has given its fans a pleasant perspective. The online portal that helps find holiday accommodation is advertising Barbie’s “dream house” in Malibu: a life-size version of the plastic models we all played with as children.
That’s right… you can book a stay in Barbie’s house, for just one night! AirBnB has entered on its platformBarbie’s Malibu DreamHouse – Ken’s Way», a «life-size pink toy mansion» for fans of the franchise.
The images accompanying the advert tell a story of their own: a poolside bar! A barbecue (even if the chicken legs are obviously plastic…)! A home gym! Let’s be honest, could Barbie and Ken settle for anything less? The oceanfront villa, decorated 90 percent in pink (with pops of blue!), is a livable version of the iconic home.
The house, reads the announcement, is «located along a splendid and panoramic coast, the Malibu DreamHouse is a surfer’s paradise warmed by the sun, surrounded by beach, beach and more beach – just the way I like it» (easy to guess that this is, of course, “Ken’s” perspective.)
“I furnished the place with even more of my own!” continues the ad. «Not only the beach, then! My cowboy stuff is cool. And there’s no shortage of horses, guitars, games and more. Including, of course, rollerblades, because I don’t go anywhere without them. Now guests can live Ken-style for a neon night in Barbie Land — sans beer.”
Let’s be honest, it looks pretty funny. Themed activities include an “outdoor dance floor” for practicing line dancing, an infinity pool, and a closet full of Ken’s cowboy-inspired outfits. But that’s not all: as a souvenir, guests can take away «their own set of Impala roller skates and yellow and pink surfboards».
Those interested will be able to book a one-night stay – max two people – starting July 17 at 10:00 PDT-Pacific Daylight Time (pay attention to the time zone!), for the nights of 21 July and 22 July 2023coinciding with the film’s release Barbie. If you’re already thinking about astronomical figures for such an experience, don’t worry, apparently it’s a free stay, because, as Airbnb’s press release states, «Ken couldn’t put a price on Barbie’s dream house at Malibu.”
