A man took a woman hostage on a walkway near Rio de Janeiro City Hall this Friday (30).
According to the Military Police, the man had a knife and tried to rob the victim.
Images taken by a pedestrian who was passing by the location captured the moment of the robbery. In the images, it is possible to see the moment in which he is with the woman on the ground and some people try to rescue her.
After being approached by some pedestrians, the man who was holding the hostage was neutralized and the victim was rescued.
Official information
According to the police, the incident took place on Av. Presidente Vargas, in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, in the central region of Rio. A team of military police officers from the 4th BPM (São Cristóvão) was called.
The man was taken to the 6th Police Precinct (Cidade Nova), where the case was registered. The knife used in the attempted robbery was seized.
Until the last update of this report, we had no information about the victim’s health condition.
