The Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized, last Monday afternoon (18), more than R$ 1.5 million in dollar, euro and real banknotes, which were transported by a couple from Espírito Santo on BR-158 , in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the corporation, agents received information about a Banco do Brasil employee who was fleeing by car to Uruguay after stealing money from the bank branch where he worked .
As a result, the police approached a vehicle, which was occupied by a 43-year-old man and his 29-year-old partner, both born in Espírito Santo.
During the inspection, bundles of reais, dollars and euros were found hidden in suitcases and next to the spare tire. In total, the corporation seized R$763,438, €70,700 and US$41,940.
According to the PRF, the money had been stolen from a Banco do Brasil branch in Espírito Santo, where the driver of the vehicle worked, information that was confirmed by the man’s wife.
The two were arrested and presented to the Judiciary Police. The vehicle and money were seized.
