The actress Nava Mau, who plays Teri in “Baby Reindeer” said that a deleted scene from the series showed her character's outcome after her breakup with Donny (Richard Gadd).
The series, which was successful on Netflix — and is inspired by real events in Gadd's life — left the character's future open, but the actress said she even recorded a scene that was not included in the final version. “I got closure because Teri did too,” she said in an interview with GQ.
“There was one more part of Teri and Donny's relationship in the script, and I played it. Teri leaves Donny a voicemail five months later,” said Mau.
“That's what gave me so much comfort, knowing that they found peace in their relationship. Teri got her happy ending, you know? Teri found a new man, didn't lose her friends, didn't lose her job, didn't lose her smile. She’s fine,” said the actress.
Nava Mau is a trans woman, just like her character, and talked about how she enjoyed playing a role without ending trafficking: “I think this is remarkable, because we often see stories about trans people that end with them broken.”
