B3, in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance and the Business Initiative for Racial Equity, launched the Racial Equity Program on boards.
The project aims to expand the presence of black people in high decision-making positions in companies.
For this, there will be 13 classes taught by professors from the institutes, in a class of 30 students, for training in items such as Compliance and Ethics.
A survey among the 73 companies that participated in the ISE B3 selection process in 2021 found that about 80% of these companies responded that they had between 0 and 11% of black people in management and C-level positions.
THE CNN Radio on CNN no Plural, the manager of Organizational Development, Culture and Diversity at B3 Manuela Alves stated that these data show a lack of representation.
“At B3, we have a ‘double hat’ of diversity and inclusion, we look at it as a company; and, as a Stock Exchange, we induce the market with good practices.”
The program, according to her, “is one of those answers”, to act precisely as an “inducer” of this inclusion.
“The ‘practice or explain’ mechanism is not a requirement, companies will be able to adapt by showing in practice, with minority executives within the board or directors, or showing the plan of how they will get there.”
Manuela highlights that “in recent years, Brazil has advanced in terms of corporate governance” and this initiative is proof of that.
The 30 participants of the first group were selected based on nominations from B3, IBGC and Iniciativa Empresarial, as organizers, and from the companies sponsoring the program.
