The usual real income of Brazilian workers grew for the second consecutive month in August, after two years without growth, said the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Friday (30).
The value reached R$ 2,713 in the quarter ended in August, an increase of 3.1% in relation to the previous quarter. In the annual comparison, the number was stable. “’This growth is mainly associated with the retraction of inflation. But the expansion of employment with a formal contract and of employers are also contributing factors”, says Adriana Beringuy, coordinator of Pnad Contínua (Continuous National Household Sample Survey), in a press release.
The income for the group of employees with a formal contract registered a growth of 2% (more R$ 51), while that of employers rose 11.5% (R$ 689).
Among the sectors that registered growth in the usual real average income compared to the previous quarter, ended in May, the IBGE highlights “Agriculture, livestock, forestry production, fishing and aquaculture”, with an increase of 7.2% (R$ 123), “Industry”, which rose 4.4% (R$ 111).
The groups “Trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” were also mentioned, with an increase of 3.5% (R$ 77) and “Information, Communication and Financial, Real Estate, Professional and Administrative Activities”, with an increase of 5.5%. % (R$ 205).
The survey released earlier on Friday showed a drop in the unemployment rate in the quarter ending in August to 8.9%. The number represents a drop of 0.9 percentage point compared to the previous quarter, ended in May, and is the lowest level since the quarter ended in July 2015 (8.7%).
