Avatar 2 is the sixth highest grossing ever in cinema history

James Cameron must have known that Avatar – The way of water it would have been as successful as the first chapter, released ten years earlier, and this is why the data achieved at the box office perhaps surprises us more, who on the eve were anything but sure that the Na’vi franchise would be successful again to enter the hearts of the spectators. Obviously we were wrong, since the second chapter of the saga has officially exceeded 2 billion dollars grossing in theaters around the world, placing as the sixth highest grossing ever in the history of cinema. Before him are, in fact: the first Avatars, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic – again directed by James Cameron –Star Wars: The Force Awakens And Avengers: Infinity War.

What immediately catches the eye is that Cameron has directed three titles out of six of the chart-topping ones – Avatars, Titanic and, indeed, Avatar – The way of water -, and both that the actress Zoe Saldana appears in four of them – plays, in fact, Neytiri in the saga of Avatars and Gamora in Marvel movies, including the two Avengers). the extraordinary result of the second chapter of Avatars reassures us about one thing: after the Covid emergency which effectively paralyzed the industry for almost two years, the public has shown that they still want to enjoy a film in theaters and to do it with all the honors, savoring the magic that only cinema can give.

variety underlined how extraordinary it is that a film has returned to gross so much after the emergency and after the stop of some film markets such as Russia, who decided not to screen the film. Although Japan was one of the very few countries in the world to welcome coldly Avatar – The way of water – just 28 million dollars against the 176 of the original -, it is clear that the film, at this point, can still advance in the rankings – it will be interesting to see if Cameron will surpass himself by unseating Titanic – awakening the pleasure for a saga that will certainly not leave us dry-mouthed in the future: the third film is practically ready, while the fourth and fifth are in the works. We all knock on Cameron’s door, it is probable that he reads our future with particular accuracy.
