The relatives of an autistic boy who was shot and fatally wounded by police while outside his home holding a garden tool are demanding more transparency from California authorities investigating the incident, the family's lawyer said Tuesday. Ryan Gainer, a 15-year-old African-American, was killed Saturday afternoon in Apple Valley, a community northeast of Los Angeles. He was shot by at least one of the San Bernardino County police officers who rushed to his home after what the family's attorney described as a mental health crisis.
