Her former deputy prime minister AustraliaBarnaby Joyce, was caught in an embarrassing scene late last Wednesday night while lying on the pavement of a Canberra suburb, drunk to slur on the phone from alcohol.
THE politician, can be seen in a video circulating online, lying on the ground while speaking incoherently on the phone, in Lonsdale Street in Braddon at around 11.40pm. The video, provided by Daily Mail, shows the former deputy prime minister muttering profanities into his phone. Sources said the 56-year-old Australian politician was sitting on a large flower pot while having a phone conversation with his wife, Vikki Campion, when he fell and “rolled” on the ground while continuing his call.
The 56-year-old can be heard on the footage politician to say “gah… but…” while talking to his wife.
“He takes Aussies for granted but he needs to have some dignity and resign,” wrote one. Another added: “But we all know he won't quit because he's a greedy thug.” A third wrote to X that it was “completely unacceptable and allowing him to continue is just enabling his appalling behaviour”, reports the Daily Mail.
Speaking after the video was released, Joyce admitted that he had consumed alcohol after Parliament had adjourned at 10pm that day. “I was walking home after a session of Parliament at 10pm,” said Barnaby Joyce. “While I was on the phone I sat on the edge of a flower pot and when I fell off it I continued to talk on the phone.” “I got up and went home” he justified himself.
“I made a big mistake. I have no excuse. But there is an explanation. I'm on medication and there are side effects if you drink alcohol at the same time and they came out 100%” tried to justify the former prime minister of Australia.
However, he rejected calls to resign saying, however, that “this is not my decision. I will not enter into an endless dialogue about what other people want me to do,” he stressed.
