Australia: Cycling world champion Rohan Dennis arrested over wife's death

THE Australiantwo-time world champion cycling Rohan Dennis is accused of killing 32-year-old Melissa Hoskings (a former world cycling champion) outside their home in Adelaide when he pulled her over speeding in his gray van.

The tragic story happened on Saturday night in Medidi, a neighborhood in the north of Adelaide, Australia, where the couple lived with their two children. The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries and died a few hours later.

The perpetrator was immediately arrested and the police charged him withcausing death by dangerous driving.

The cyclist was released on bail and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates' Court in March 2024.

A few days ago, the couple together with their two children had wished through social media “Merry Christmas” to the whole world.

In February, 33-year-old Rohan Dennis announced that this would be his last season:

Thank you Melissa for supporting me throughout my career and for giving me the best kids I could ever ask for. Cycling has given me so much and I will be forever grateful. There is still a long season ahead, but it will definitely be my last as a professionalhe wrote on social media.

Dennis won a stage in the 'Giro d'Italia', one in the 'Tour de France', two 'Vuelta's, two world titles in the individual time trial and two in the team time trial, and a bronze medal in the Olympic time trial. On the track she won an Olympic silver medal and two world titles in the team pursuit.

Melissa Hoskings was also a cycling champion: in 2015 she won gold in the team pursuit, before retiring in 2017.
