Some time ago, Audi designers talked about three upcoming car concepts that will show the world the future of the brand. The manufacturer revealed the Skysphere electric roadster shortly thereafter in August, and now it’s time to take a look at a second show car called the Grandsphere. It is worth noting that although the car is considered a concept, it will be possible to look at it live very soon – on September 7 at the Munich Motor Show. Moreover, there is even information that the concept will eventually be brought to mass production, but this is still hard to believe – most likely, the company will simply take the elements of Grandsphere for implementation in future innovations.
However, there is nothing unreal in Grandsphere – the car is built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric from Volkswagen Group) electric platform, which the novelty will share with the Porsche Macan, Audi Q6 and A6 e-tron. Accordingly, the power plant of the vehicle consists of two electric motors (one located on the front axle, the other on the rear) with a total capacity of 721 horsepower with a torque of 960 Nm. Unfortunately, Audi named only an approximate acceleration from zero to a hundred – a little over four seconds. This is not bad for such an impressive electric car (the length is 5.3 meters), but, of course, it is very far from the records. But on one battery charge Grandsphere overcomes up to 750 kilometers.
And the new concept is no longer about speed, but about comfort – the developers themselves compare the Grandsphere with a private jet. For example, a fourth level autonomous driving system is installed here – passengers can relax and go about their business while the car is driving along a given route. True, if necessary, you can use the steering wheel and pedals – they leave the interior elements of the cabin. The car has not yet grown to the fifth level of autonomy – so far it is impossible to implement it.
Of course, in the cabin itself there is a sea of space for passengers, a wide rear sofa, a huge digital dashboard that smoothly turns into a multimedia display, and there is no central pillar as such. Even the doors at the Grandsphere open in a Rolls-Royce fashion for increased comfort on board and disembark. Now Audi is left to show the third Urbansphere concept, the announcement of which should take place in 2022 – then it will be possible to start releasing new cars in an innovative design.
