The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Attiko Metro SA announced on Monday the signing of a new financing agreement of a record amount of 580 million euros regarding the construction of the new Athens Metro Line.
As it became known, the thirty-year loan marks the largest financing of a transport project in the country, while from the EIB side, it is the largest financing ever given for the construction of a single project in Greece.
The financing concerns the construction of the new Line 4 of the Athens Metro – Section A ‘- Veikos – Goudi Grove, which is the largest “Metro route” ever built in Athens, while the loan is the second part of the total financing EUR 730 million provided by the EIB for the project.
In particular, on Monday, at the company’s headquarters, Attiko Metro SA, in cooperation with the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Finance and the competent bodies, completed all the procedures required for the conclusion of the Contract, which was signed. in the presence of Messrs. Christian Thomsen, EIB Vice President Ioannis Kaltsa, Head of the EIB Investment Team for Greece, and Nikolaou Koureta, Managing Director of Attiko Metro SA.
“Investing in sustainable transport is crucial to improving everyday life, supporting economic growth and reducing carbon dioxide emissions and air pollution. During its many years of operation, Attiko Metro SA has proven its ability to design, study, auction, supervise the construction and put into operation complex projects, such as those of Metro and Tram, with safety, reliability, quality and high aesthetics through the promotion of metro stations in small museums “.
It is recalled that the last financial support is provided following the first loan agreement signed in 2019, under which Attiko Metro SA accepted the support of the EIB in the amount of 150 million euros from the total approved credit. This amount was disbursed on 30.11.21.
As Attiko Metro SA underlines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Minister, Costas Ah. Karamanlis and the Deputy Minister, G. Karagiannis, continue the implementation of new extensions of the Metro network in Athens and Thessaloniki, having an ambitious program of extensions of its networks, contributing substantially to the economic development of our country and at the same time securing thousands of jobs.
