At an event in Brazil, futurist says he needs to ask “the right questions”

This Thursday (4th) in São Paulo, Amy Webb, American futurist, founder and CEO of the Future Today Institute, said that Brazil has a promising future, but it is not asking the right questions.

Webb was on the second day of Expert XP 2022, an event with debates on investment, entrepreneurship, technology, ESG and innovative actions. The futurist spoke about digital identities, the relationship between technology and biology, and trends for a promising future for Brazil.

We are not asking the right questions.” According to her, Brazil is a country with a future, in which she strongly believes, but which needs changes to advance: “people need to think about the long term. The government needs to think, make big investments in innovation, research and development

This national development through innovations must occur even in the midst of what he called “VUCA”, an acronym for what, in English, means “volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity”. According to her, the 2022 elections will change the course of the Brazilian future, which is a “vibrant and incredible place, but with many complexities in international relationships”. In addition, the term refers to the emerging situation of technology in the country, which develops during intense social changes.

To match the possibilities of a promising future, Webb stressed that the right questions must be asked: “What can act as an agent of disruption?”. According to her, good questions can lead the country to lead internationally in areas such as agribusiness, since the agricultural industry finds fertile soil, but it can still be better managed, focusing on the development of novelties such as biotechnology.

In addition, the writer pointed out that trends represent the movement towards the future, which must be understood as a different concept of “fashion”, which prevails for periods, without bringing great evolutionary opportunities. In this sense, she reinforced that the metaverse, cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence – new issues that have been leading debates – are not trends, but categories. “The metaverse is a concept, an idea, even marketing, but it is not a technology”he said.

To relate futurism to these categories, it is necessary to connect human beings to technological innovations. According to her, one of the ways to make this happen is through the promotion of digital identities as a new version of people themselves, which can happen in the metaverse. But Webb still questioned: “What do we want for ourselves in the future?
