Enel reported, late this Thursday afternoon (16), that 7% of the 290,000 properties that had their power supply interrupted due to the storm that hit São Paulo on Wednesday (15) were still without service. . According to the utility, 93% of customers affected by the storm had already had their power restored.
The distributor also stated that it hoped to normalize supply by Thursday night.
The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said in an agenda this Thursday (16), that he asked the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to cancel the concession contract with Enel.
The request took place last Monday (13), during a meeting with the agency’s directors, mayors of cities served by Enel and governor Tarcísio de Freitas. “Enel is no longer able to remain here in São Paulo. It is unacceptable to have a company like this, which does not have a shred of respect for the population and left people without power for almost a week.”
In a note, Aneel reported that it had initiated an inspection process at Enel, together with ARSESP and has given top priority to the issue.
“ANEEL intends to have the first results in 30 days and in this process various dimensions of the problem will be analyzed, such as: the preparation of distributors for critical events, performance in preventing their effects, the capacity to restore, adequacy, preparation and quantity of teams used in the restoration, execution of the contingency plan, dialogue with other institutions involved in the restoration process, among others. In this process, responsibilities will be determined and appropriate sanctions will be applied.”
New blackouts
During the session held at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp), the president of Enel in Brazil, Nocola Cotugno, refuted criticisms made of the company’s stance in managing the crisis.
Cotugno also explained how Enel is preparing to deal with the rains forecast for the end of this week, but warned that new cases of power outages should be recorded.
