The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) announced that it is now vetoing the possibility of paying in installments with credit cards at duty-free stores.
In a statement, the institution says that this extends the ban already in place for tickets and tourist services abroad and for products from abroad received by the door-to-door system.
With this, the BCRA says that financial entities and non-financial providers will not be able to finance in installments their customers’ purchases of tickets abroad and tourist services outside the country; products abroad that are received by the non-commercial postal system; and products in duty-free shops.
Argentina’s authorities are facing an economic crisis, with high inflation and difficulties in paying off state debt. The country still suffers from recent turmoil in the markets, amid doubts from investors with the change in charge of the Ministry of Economy.
