Argentina: Alberto Fernandes is referred to trial for indictment of domestic violence

Argentina’s justice confirmed on Tuesday that former President Alberto Fernandes (2019-2023) will be brought to trial on charges of “causing serious physical harm”, “threats” and “coercion”. The offenses concern former journalist and television presenter Fabiola Yianias, who has been a partner for several years during his presidential term. The former 66 -year -old state leader, who from the outset, denies that he ever brought violence against Mrs Yianias, with whom she was a couple for ten years, appealed to the first -instance ruling to be brought to trial in mid -February. But two of the three members of the Federal Court of Appeal argued in their decision, an 82 -page area, which came to the knowledge of the AFP, that “the defendant practiced various forms of sex violence in a continuous manner between 2016 and 2024”.
