Archbishop of Salvador embarks to the Vatican

One day after the death of Pope Francis, the archbishop of Salvador and Brazil Primate, Dom Sergio da Rocha, embarked towards the Vatican on Tuesday night (22).

Dom Sergio is among the seven Brazilians able to participate in the Conclave, a vote that will define the new of the Catholic Church leader. Asked about being a favorite to replace the Argentine Pope, he said he participated in the moment responsibly.

“We still have ahead. At this moment we must pray for the Pope who passed away and put in the hands of God the life of the Church. The archbishop of Salvador was the only Brazilian to integrate the C9 – Council composed of nine cardinals, which helped the Pope govern the Church. He also remembered the proximity to Francisco during this period.

“We were fun to be closer to the Pope to help think the mission of the Church, always respecting his agenda. In our meetings we always seek to reflect not only what was going on inside the church, but the joys and pains of humanity. The Pope has always been open to what was going on in the world and he helped follow this path of dialogue, fraternity and peace,” said Dom Sergio.
