The eminent immunologist Dr Anthony Fauci, the main advisor to US President Joe Biden on Covid-19 and the man who became the “face» of the fight against her pandemic in the US, announced today that he will step down from his post in December.
Fauci, 81 years old now, announced that he would step down as White House counsel and as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He will also step down as head of NIAID’s Laboratory of Immunoregulation.
However, he does not intend to “retire” yet. “After more than 50 years of public service, I plan to pursue the next phase of my career while I still have so much energy and passion for my field,” he said in his statement, according to the Athens News Agency.

Fauci has been director of NIAID since 1984 and has worked with seven presidents since that position. Last month, he told Reuters that he intended to retire at the end of Biden’s first term in the White House.
