The responsive visual design in Android 12, dubbed Material You, is not only beautiful, but also original, as it allows each Pixel smartphone owner to create an individual theme based on the wallpaper. But it turned out that this mechanism can cause certain problems in games.
According to the XDA resource, changing the wallpaper conflicts with the gameplay. In particular, the Google Issue Tracker describes cases when Pokémon Go or Wild Rift crashed after changing the background image on the desktop. It is likely that the issue affects more games, as a similar situation occurs during the launch of Genshin Impact, Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile and Minecraft.
This is most likely due to the fact that changing the wallpaper automatically triggers actions caused by changing the base colors. If this does not affect the operation of applications, then a conflict arises with the running games. Crashes appear to also occur when the user exits the game, changes the wallpaper on the home screen, and then wants to continue playing. Automatically changing the background image using third-party applications only exacerbates the problem.
The main reason for crashes is an Android configuration change causing apps to restart activities. Unfortunately, it cannot be blocked. As a rule, games ignore such system changes as dark mode and screen rotation, however, they apparently cannot cope with changing the wallpaper. There is currently no solution to this problem. Hopefully Google will come up with something with a system update.
