The International Analyst of CNN Fernanda Magnotta said that the replacement of President Joe Biden’s candidacy with that of Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be positively influencing the Democratic Party’s campaign in the United States.
A new survey by CNN revealed Kamala ahead of former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump in decisive states such as Wisconsin and Michigan.
“If you looked at these numbers about two months ago, you would see that Trump had a relatively comfortable lead in a number of these states,” Magnotta explains.
Fierce dispute in the pendulum states
Despite the Democratic recovery, the race remains tight.
“They closed the gap a little in relation to Trump’s advantage, but in almost all cases we are talking about a technical tie,” he says.
The importance of these swing states is crucial, since the US has a “winner takes it all” rule.
This means that, regardless of the margin of victory, the candidate who wins a state takes all of that state’s electoral college votes.
Campaign strategies
The research also indicates that the vote to be contested has a specific demographic profile.
In Pennsylvania, for example, the electorate is linked to the American manufacturing middle class, sensitive to economic issues. In Georgia, the vote of the black population cannot be ignored.
Magnotta also highlights the importance of the female vote: “We will also need to look at how the group of women is behaving in these states in particular, because these are states where the female presence was decisive in the last elections”.
In this scenario, campaigns are expected to intensify their strategies in key states, concentrating resources and efforts to try to turn the game around in places where the dispute is most intense.
