The anaconda found dead last Sunday (24) in Bonito, in the interior of Mato Grosso do Sul, measured 6.45 meters in length.
According to biologist Henrique Abrahão Charles, a snake specialist and author of a master's degree on anacondas, the dead snake, which was named Ana Julia, was the largest specimen of the species ever recorded in the world.
Until then, says the biologist, the largest anaconda ever recorded was 5.21 meters long. Generally, adult anacondas are between 4 and 5 meters long and weigh 80 to 100 kilograms. In the case of Ana Julia, who was nicknamed Vovozona, her weight could reach 200 kilos, says Henrique.
The animal was well known in the region and was even portrayed in documentaries.
Initially, the information released was that the snake was shot dead. The Civil Police of Mato Grosso do Sul, however, stated that a preliminary analysis indicated that there were no bullet holes in the animal's corpse. An examination would be carried out last Tuesday (25), but the result has not yet been released.
According to the population, the animal had holes in its head. The biologist states that the anaconda does not have aggressive behavior, which would not justify violent action against the animal for reasons of defense.
“This snake had been there for more than 20 years. She was loved by the population. She never showed any reaction. She was always meek and docile. People dived on her side and she never attacked anyone, like no one else there. What happened is that the guy, probably out of spite, went there and killed him,” she commented.
