Ana de Armas is criticized in “Blonde” and Marilyn Monroe’s estate comes out in defense

O Marilyn Monroe Estate the estate of the Hollywood star, is coming to the defense of Ana de Armas, after criticism of her accent in her portrayal of an actress in the film “Blonde”, by the Netflix .

Armas, who was born in Cuba, misses Monroe’s “original breathy tone,” according to some critics. Marilyn Monroe Estate, however, has a different opinion.

“Marilyn Monroe is a singular icon of Hollywood and pop culture that transcends generations and history,” said Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group (ABG), owner of the Marilyn Monroe Estate, in a statement to CNN .

“Any actor who takes on this role knows they have a big place to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it seems that Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”

Armas has not publicly commented on the criticism, but in an interview with London’s The Times, she said it took nine months of dialect training to get Monroe’s accent right.

“Blonde”, based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, is a fictionalized retelling of Monroe’s life and chronicles her rise. The film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 28.
