In Nashville, under the auspices of Bitcoin magazine, an exhibition space and showcase of works dedicated to the bitcoin pioneer and his role in creating the Silk Road darknet market has been opened.
The exhibition dedicated to Ross Ulbricht is a recreation of the conditions of his imprisonment in the Tucson prison. The space is the size of a prison cell, with iron bars and a stylized sink/toilet combination traditional in American prisons. A wall-mounted TV set in the cell shows a video sequence of drawings made by Ulbricht in prison.
The exhibit features letters and paintings from the creator of Silk Road, as well as scanned sets of information about the story, the verdict, and the mission to secure a prisoner’s release. His mother, Lin, has been campaigning for Ross’s release for seven years now, despite the difficulties and lack of visitation rights.
According to the organizers of the exhibition, the space will serve as a place to sell bitcoin-related clothing, digital and print magazine Bitcoin. The art gallery will feature exclusive visual work from the top creatives in the bitcoin space, as well as work from emerging digital artists.
Reproductions of artwork created by Ulbricht are available for purchase and all proceeds will be donated to the FreeRoss.org Foundation.
Ross Ulbricht has been sentenced to double life imprisonment for his role in creating and running the Silk Road darknet marketplace. Due to the nature of his crime, Ross is not allowed access to a computer or the internet, not even to check email.
In March, the former owner of the Silk Road marketplace, who has been serving a sentence since 2015, announced that his digitized work will be presented at the Bitcoin 2022 conference. The organizers of the conference allowed Ross Ulbricht to exhibit the works so that he could challenge his punishment, as well as send part of the money to charity.
