AMD has been increasing its share of the consumer processor segment for several consecutive quarters, despite the downward trend in desktop demand. Even in such conditions, the company continues to push Intel and increased its share to a record 27% in the second quarter.
AMD provided such data to Tom’s Hardware. In monetary terms, AMD increased its market share over the year from 18.1% to 18.8% in the PC segment, from 14.9% to 27% in the notebook segment and from 11.6% to 22.9% in the server segment. In general, in the x86-compatible processor market, AMD’s revenue share in the second quarter increased from 16.9% to 28.1%, which is a record figure.
Statistics from Mercury Research, which traditionally operates on the number of processors sold, and not the proceeds from their sale, show approximately the same results. In the desktop segment, AMD’s share increased by 3.5% (up to 20.6%) compared to the same period last year. In the mobile segment, according to preliminary data from Mercury Research, AMD did not reach the 27% that the company claims, but it turned out to be very close to this level. Its share of the mobile processor market is 24.8%. And even in this case, this is a record for the company. In the server segment, AMD’s results in quantitative terms are much more modest than in monetary terms. Nevertheless, its share is steadily growing for the 13th quarter in a row.
So far, there is no data on AMD’s share of the entire x86-compatible processor market in the second quarter of this year. Last quarter, the figures were 27.7%. By the way, the market share of products based on Arm in the first quarter reached 11.3%, and two years ago it did not exceed 2%. This is big progress.
