Amber Heard reaches an economic agreement with Johnny Depp to stop the legal dispute

In June this year, following the six-week defamation trial in which Amber Heard and Johnny Depp accused each other of domestic violence, the jury sided with the 59-year-old actor but also agreed with Heard on some points.

As a consequence, the final verdict ordered the star of Aquaman pay more than ten million dollars in moral damages to her ex-husband, while he had to compensate her for two million after concluding that both Hollywood stars had defamed each other.

After months of legal back and forth, in which Heard went out of her way to appeal the ruling that disadvantaged her, arguing that she was unable to pay such an amount, without a home and outside her country, on December 19, the American actress announced that reached a financial settlement to end the jury verdict appeal proceedings.

Through her official Instagram account, the 36-year-old interpreter said she would withdraw the appeal against the payment that the jury had ordered her to make because she “simply can’t go through” another trial. However, she explained that her “difficult decision” was not an “act of concession” but a choice matured “after losing faith in the American judicial system.”

In addition, Heard stressed that her recent legal situation affected her personally and professionally, destroying her life due to all the defamations she has been a victim of, spread on social networks, generating the greatest humiliation she has ever experienced. Although Heard did not give details about the agreement, according to TMZ, the actress will not have to pay the 10.3 million dollars stipulated by the Court, but only one million, which will come from her insurance company.

In addition, the US portal reports that the money will be donated by Depp to charities, because since the controversial legal battle began, the actor’s lawyers assured that the defamation lawsuit filed by the protagonist of Pirates of the Caribbean it was not a question of money, but of justice.
