Alok dismisses Grammy and says he makes music to “transform the world”

DJ Alok, 33, minimized his defeat at the Latin Grammys and stated that his project was designed to make a real impact on the world, not on awards. The 25th edition of the main Latin music awards ceremony took place on Thursday (14), in Miami, in the North American state of Florida.

The artist from Goiás was competing with “Pedju Kunumigwe” (made in collaboration with Guarani Nhandewa) in the category of Best Electronic Music Performance and ended up losing to a collaboration between Shakira and Bizarrap remixed by Tiësto. “If this project had been based on winning a Grammy, it would be very fragile. For me, the future is to use my platform to make a difference and transform the world into a better place”, declared the DJ on Monday (18), during the press conference about the release of his music video with Anitta.

The song is part of the project “The Future Is Ancestral”, in which he brings Brazilian indigenous peoples to the spotlight and defends the environmental agenda.

“For me the big point is that, as [o Grammy Latino] It was a new experience, I was able to serve as a platform to enhance indigenous voices”, he defended. “What I do today is to not go back to that existential void”, said the DJ.
