One of the alligators that inhabits the Pampulha Lagoa Ecological Park in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, was given to popular, this Friday (25), but was just sleeping.
The city of Belo Horizonte received several complaints that the alligator was dead, after people passing through the place to see the immovable animal by the water.
Technicians of the Urban Calletanry Undersecretary (Suzurb) went to the scene and seeing the alligator found that the animal was just sleeping.
Lagoa da Pampulha has a population of 17 alligators, adults, subadultures and puppies, according to a population census held by the Undersecretary of Animal Welfare of the Municipal Secretariat of Environment.
“We map their preferential locations, territories and play areas through GPS, aiming at continuing studies or possible future interventions,” explains the folder.
The growth of this population of alligators is slow due to the high predation of newborn eggs and puppies by other species of animals that inhabit the region.
The study showed that there is no risk of overpopulation, discarding the need to handle animals.
