All Spain’s rail services are suspended until new warning

All Spain’s rail services are suspended until a new warning, the Department of Railway and Traffic Infrastructure (ADIF) said on Monday (28), hours after the blackout that reached much of the country.

“Passengers with planned trips are asked not to go to the stations. We will continue to provide updates,” the department said in an X post.

Electricity has been partially restored throughout Spain, but experts are still responding to the huge blackout on Monday, said the national power grid operator.

“The tension has already been restored in substations in various areas in the north, south and west of the peninsula,” Red Electrica said in a statement.

“We continue to work with all the resources to restore energy as soon as possible throughout the territory. The main objective of work at this stage is to restore energy for generating units.”

Meanwhile, Madrid’s mayor, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has asked the national government to send the army to help deal with power outage.

Díaz Ayuso said the local government has mobilized “all resources available to deal with the ongoing emergency situation” and asked the Spanish government to activate the army “to cooperate in this crisis.”
