In an astonishing technological advance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now moved towards beauty standards. This time, the tool followed its own concepts, if its programming can be called that, and created the “most attractive man” from 20 countries, generating a heated debate on social networks. It is also important to highlight that the Brazilian profile is not on the list.
The intelligence was able to generate a visual representation that would supposedly correspond to the most attractive standard of beauty in each country. The images, which are available on the Reddit platform, feature men with classic features, marked jaws, defined bodies and contoured facial hair. Many also have long or voluminous hair, outside the “standard” short.
In addition, smart technology was able to draw inspiration from each nation by using clothing to demonstrate links to each country’s culture. The project, however, sparked a series of debates about the objectification of appearance and stereotypes of beauty.
While some applaud the initiative as an innovative way to explore aesthetic diversity, others argue that this approach reinforces strict standards of beauty by disregarding the diversity present in facial shapes, skin colors and races.
“I don’t know, but a lot of these pictures are basically the same guy, but with slightly different skin tones and hair styles. I understand the scientific standards,” reads one comment.
“Something unrealistic, unrealistic beauty standards”, points out another comment on the platform.
“They all basically have the same facial features. Sharp jaw, relatively long hair and they are muscular”, points out another critic of the creations.
