Former São Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), pre-candidate for vice on the ticket of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and the former mayor of the capital Fernando Haddad (PT) were on the same platform this Friday afternoon. Friday (24), during an event to inaugurate a cooperative in Andradina, in the interior of São Paulo.
Haddad is the PT’s pre-candidate for the government of São Paulo. The PSB, Alckmin’s party, has Márcio França as a pre-candidate. PTs try to reach an agreement in the state, to make France give up running.
This was the first time that Alckmin and Haddad were together at an event. The image is considered important for PT members, as the former governor has strength among the electorate in the interior of the state, where there is resistance to the PT.
Both Haddad and Alckmin made no direct mention of the state government campaign. But Alckmin, in the speech, stated that he suggested to Haddad’s campaign the expansion of a program of direct purchases from local producers.
Members of Haddad’s campaign say behind the scenes that Alckmin’s presence is a “rehearsal for the stage” in the state. The PSB, on the other hand, claims that the ex-governor’s departure is only justified because the agenda is “national”, that is, Alckmin is in the position of representative of the ticket to the Presidency.
Both parties claim, however, that Alckmin would not be on the agenda if that would cause any kind of friction with Marcio França.
França maintains the pre-candidacy for the government of São Paulo in the PSB so far and has already traveled to São Paulo cities on agendas. The PT maintains an open channel for dialogue and tries to convince the former governor to compose the ticket with Haddad to try for a seat in the Senate. PT and PSB postponed the decision on the state slates, which was scheduled for June 15, but await a definition by the end of this month.
Alckmin, on Tuesday (21), waved to France at a PSB event in Osasco.
“Here in São Paulo, our leader has a first and last name: Marcio França. We are together, see Márcio, It’s Márcio here and Lula there”, says the former governor in a video released by CNN, in a report by Tainá Falcão.
