Al Pacino recounts near-death experience fighting Covid-19

Actor Al Pacino revealed that his heart stopped beating while he was battling Covid-19. The star, now 84 years old, recalled the critical moment in which he lost consciousness during his battle against the virus, in 2020, and opened up about his near-death experience amid the pandemic.

In an interview with The New York Times Magazine, the actor from “The Godfather” shared details about what happened and reported that he lost consciousness after starting to feel “strangely bad”: “What happened was I felt bad, strangely bad. I had a fever, I was getting dehydrated and everything. I asked someone to call a nurse to hydrate me. I was sitting there at home, and [perdi a consciência]. Like this. I didn’t have a pulse. In a matter of minutes, they [os socorristas] They arrived, an ambulance in front of my house. There were like six paramedics in my living room, and two doctors, and they had these outfits that looked like they were from another planet or something,” he recalled.

The Oscar winner admitted to having feared death, something he had never even considered before. “It was kind of shocking to open my eyes and see that. Everyone was around me, and they said, ‘He’s back. He’s back.’ I didn’t see white light or anything. There’s nothing there. I had never thought about that in my life. But you know how actors are: it sounds good to say I died once. What happens when there is nothing left?”

Despite the scare, the artist stated that his children – Julie, 34 years old, twins Anton and Olivia, 23, and little Roman, just one year old, the result of different relationships – are his “consolation”.

Pacino confessed that talking about death no longer seems “morbid” to him. “It is what it is. I didn’t ask for this. It just happens, like many things just happen.”
