All the planes remained stuck on the ground at its airport on Sunday La Palma, in the Canary Islands, for the second consecutive day, due to the ash released from the volcano Kumbre Vieha.
The airlines canceled 38 flights – most of them between the islands – that were to take place today. Only 4 of the 34 scheduled flights on Saturday took place normally.
The local airline Binter announced that it will resume flights “as soon as conditions allow”.
The eruption of the volcano has caused significant damage to buildings and 7,000 people have been forced to flee their homes. Some lost everything when lava swallowed their homes.
The Spanish government and local authorities have released 300 million euros for the reconstruction of the island, the proceeds of which come mainly from tourism and banana plantations.
