Airbus to cut up to 2,500 jobs in Defense and Space divisions

In a new sign of the dire state facing Europe’s aerospace industry, Airbus today announced plans to cut up to 2,500 jobs in its Defense and Space divisions, citing a “complex business environment” especially in damaging satellites, saying it wants to “streamline its organization to improve competitiveness in the future”. The European aerospace group said it plans to implement the cuts, which represent 7% of the workforce at the company’s second-largest division, by mid-2026 after talks with unions. “These measures are expected to lead to a reduction of up to 2,500 positions by mid-2026” in the Defense and Space (D&S) department, which currently has around 35,000 employees. Airbus makes satellites, transport planes and has key stakes in European missile, fighter jet and space launch programmes.
