Airbus exceeded its target of 600 jet deliveries by 2021, with final totals pending an as-yet-unfinished audit, industry sources said on Monday.
Aircraft deliveries were brisk, with several deliveries completed by Dec. 31, according to Hamburg Finkenwerder News and flight tracking data.
Deliveries included a flurry of last-minute activity for the large A350 jets, for which demand has dwindled as international travel continues to be affected by the coronavirus crisis.
That brought the December count of long-haul jets to about a dozen, although nearly half of them have yet to enter operational service, according to tracking data from Flightradar24.
Airbus deliveries often rise in the final month of the year, but supply chain issues have hampered deliveries of some mid-haul jets, while the spread of the Ômicron variant has raised new doubts about the likelihood of an early recovery on long-haul travel .
Airbus has increased its forecast for jet deliveries to 600, from an earlier target of at least 566 in July, after posting better-than-expected results for the first half.
Bloomberg reported on Dec. 22 that Airbus was on its way to meet its annual delivery target.
