Air Force holds solemn ceremony of national flag replacement

The Brazilian Air Force held, this Sunday morning (9), the ceremony of replacement of the national flag, at Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília (DF). The event is part of the commemorations of Aviator and FAB Day, celebrated on October 23, in allusion to Alberto Santos-Dumont’s first flight on the “14 BIS”, in 1906.

The ceremony included an overflight of FAB fighter jets and a troop parade, composed of the Grupamento de scouts of the Security and Defense Group of Brasília; by the Music Band of the FAB Symphony Orchestra (OSFAB); by the grouping of historical flags; by the company of Ceremonial Santos-Dumont; and by the groups representing the Force’s military.

To the sound of the National Anthem and the Anthem to the Flag, the pavilion was replaced with a 21-gun salute. With 186 square meters and 90 kilos, the national flag was hoisted to the top of the 110-meter-tall flagpole.

The pavilion is close to the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court, it remains hoisted 24 hours a day and can be seen from various points of the federal capital. The exchange takes place monthly, in a rotation that involves the Armed Forces, the Military Police and the Fire Department of the Federal District.
