German Chancellor Olaf Scholz today called for a “hostage deal and a sustainable ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip after concluding his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. “We need a deal on refugees and a sustainable ceasefire,” the German chancellor said, saying he understood “the families of the hostages who say it's time for a deal to save the people being held.” For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister gave the assurance that there will be no Israeli military operation in Rafah as long as “the population remains trapped” there.
