O Donkey from Shrek , the classic character from the animation about the ogre who lives in the swamp, will get a solo film. The information was revealed by the actor Eddie Murphy who voices the character in the franchise’s films, in an interview published this Monday (24).
“Let’s do Donkey too. We’ll do ‘Shrek’ and then Donkey,” Eddie Murphy told the North American portal Collider.
Donkey is not the first character from the world of Shrek to have his own film. Puss in Boots even owned two of his own productions, released in 2011 (“Puss in Boots”) and 2022 (“Puss and Boots 2: The Last Order”).
“Shrek 5”
According to the actor, the Donkey film will start being made after the completion of “Shrek 5”.
“We started making Shrek four or five months ago,” he said. “I’ve already started recording and we’re going to finish it this year,” he added.
“Shrek 5” is expected to arrive in 2025.
The new productions in the Shrek universe have not had any further details revealed so far.
The first film in the universe was released in 2001 and tells the story of an ogre whose life is “invaded” by fairytale characters who destroy the tranquility of his home. He makes a deal to rescue a princess and, along the way, stumbles upon a new friendship between a talking donkey and a Puss in Boots.
The fourth and final film, titled “Shrek Forever After”, hit theaters in 2010.
