After menopause, women have heart attacks as much as men, says Roberto Kalil

This Wednesday, March 8, International Women’s Day is celebrated, and a cardiologist and presenter CNN Vital Signs Roberto Kalil, spoke in an interview with CNN about prevention and the diseases that most affect women.

According to the doctor, women need to pay attention to possible signs of heart attack and stroke, which are among the most dangerous diseases with the highest mortality rate.

“After menopause, the incidence of heart attacks is the same as for men, women have as many heart attacks as men”, he explained.

Kalil also pointed out that cardiovascular disease is responsible for 53% of women’s deaths, while breast cancer accounts for 14%. This does not mean that breast cancer prevention is less important, you need to get tested regularly too.

“The concept that young women also have heart attacks is important. Studies show that in the first 30 days post-infarction, the mortality of women is higher than that of men due to lack of prevention”.
