NASA Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore They gave their first press conference after being almost nine months at the International Space Station (ISS). During the conversation with some media outlets, scientists talked about the mission and said they were not in a hurry to return home.
Williams mentioned that he was quiet, because he knew that a team of people looking at the program knew the best form and time of astronauts returned home.
The two arrived in ISS in July 2024 and even returned before, but NASA decided to take Williams and Wilmore home aboard its Boeing Starliner capsule would be very risky. The agency then chose to include the pair in the regular rotation of the International Space Station crew.
This decision is why the pair returned home with Hague and Gorbunov at Spacex Crew-9 capsule, almost two weeks ago.
In this regard, Wilmore added that any NASA astronaut could have gone through the situation and ensures that another professional would have taken the same attitude, as they receive the same preparation as they on Earth.
Early in the conference, both astronauts thanked them for safely returning home, and extending compliments to the program, coaches and Space X, always stressing that their work involves teamwork.
“I heard that people were interested and concerned about our health,” says Suni, who mentions being horned to have been part of this event. “It is important to have news about spatial exploration.”
Butch, he adds, citing being grateful for being in a nation that is involved in the processes, sometimes and cares about the others. Throughout his answers, the astronaut clings to his faith and said that everyone lives with regrets, fear and that we always learn from it. “There is still a lot to learn yet.”
Early in the chat, Wilmore stated that everyone, including him, were guilty to some extent for the test flight problems with the Boeing ship.
In addition to taking part of responsibility, he quoted, “Is Boeing to blame? Are they guilty? Of course. Is NASA guilty? They are guilty? Of course. Everyone has a part of this … There were some disabilities in tests and deficiencies in the preparations we didn’t predict.”
