The Taliban condemned today US drone strike against Islamic State militants in the Afghanistan, with a spokesman saying it was a “clear attack on Afghan soil”.
“The Americans should have informed us before proceeding with the air strike, it was a clear attack on Afghan soil,” Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters. According to the spokesman, two people were killed while “two women and a child were injured”.
Earlier, the Pentagon assured that there were no civilian casualties.
Zabihullah Mujahid also said that the Taliban expected to take control of Kabul International Airport very soon, as soon as the US troops left. “It is still too early to decide whether we will need the help of Turkey or Qatar to operate the airport. “We have enough security personnel and technicians to operate it.”
The spokesman added that the composition of the new Taliban government will be announced in the coming days, noting that “it is difficult” to predict whether women will participate in the cabinet. “The final decision will be made by the top leaders,” he said.
The Taliban have already appointed new governors and police chiefs in 33 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.
Mujahid also reiterated that the Taliban want the United States, Britain and other Western countries to maintain their diplomatic ties with Afghanistan.
