Chinese President Xi Jinping said today that Afghanistan was in a “critical stage of transition from chaos to order”.
Xi’s written statement comes ahead of the second day of a China-hosted summit on Afghanistan in Anwi province. The summit is attended by Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Taliban, who seized power in Afghanistan on August 15, and representatives of the United States.
The Chinese president stressed that “a peaceful, stable Afghanistan with development and prosperity is the desire of all Afghans” and is in the interest of all countries.
“China has always respected the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Afghanistan and is committed to supporting its pursuit of peace, stability and development,” he said.
