An explosion that took place on Saturday morning in a cultural center in the north Afghanistanwhere an event for journalists was underway resulted in the death of one person and the injury of eight others, according to local authorities and journalists.
The blast took place in Balkh province, days after the governor of the province was killed in an explosion claimed by the Islamic State group.
“Today at 11:30 in the morning there was an explosion in a cultural center in the second police district of Mazar-e-Sharif city in Balkh province… The explosion was caused by a landmine”said Abdul Nafi Thakor, a spokesman for the Taliban leadership at the interior ministry.
Thakor added that the injured include five journalists and three childrenwhile a security guard is dead.
It was not immediately known who was behind the explosion.
