The actress who plays the character Buba in the soap opera “Renascer”, Gabriela Medeiros 22, made a reflection on social media this Monday (27) about the social pressures that trans people are often subjected to : “Violated all the time.”
In this second chapter, the villain Eliana (Sophie Charlotte) will tell José Inocêncio (Marcos Palmeira) that Buba is a trans woman, trying to convey the idea that he was deceived. Gabriela took advantage of the plot situation to explain that “trans people have no obligation to say they are trans all the time”.
“Do you normative cis people go around saying this all the time, 'Hi, I'm a cis person'? I bet not. Trans people are raped all the time, asked to tell us about their innermost selves, people feel entitled to invade us in an incisive and disrespectful way,” she wrote.
“The character Eliana is the pure reflection of this type of inconvenient and horrible behavior”, added Gabriela.
The actress also recommended that her followers watch the documentary “Revelation “, production of Netflix which tells stories of trans people and talks about the “premise that spreads about 'you deceived me', 'so-and-so reveals a secret', 'she hid it from people'”.
“It is important to understand that there is an entire cultural reflection behind this camouflaged prejudice that is always being externalized. People don't feel afraid of being transphobic, they really don't! They are too violent in their speeches and hit us in an incisive and very disrespectful way.” he said.
“I just want this character to be happy! Just like all trans people, I want Buba, above all, to be welcomed,” she concluded.
