Hollywood's awards season kicks into full swing this week with the Golden Globes, and actors are currently figuring out how to make the most of the peak attention and survive the season's ups and downs.
British Carey Mulligan, a two-time Oscar nominee competing for the Golden Globe as best actress for her role in “Maestro,” gets straight to the point: “Oh, just enjoy it and have fun, and don’t take it too seriously.”
She said she was pleased by what she considers a “lovely sisterhood” of actresses nominated this year, including Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone and Greta Lee.
Stone, an Oscar winner, was nominated for best actress at the Golden Globes for her role in “Poor Creatures.” She acknowledged that awards season is “both very stressful and very exciting.”
Upon arriving at the Palm Springs Festival this week, the Golden Globe nominees did not hide their mix of euphoria, disorientation and the need to take care of their mind, body and spirit. The season runs until the Oscars, on March 10, and includes many awards shows and countless interviews.
Irishman Cillian Murphy, nominated for best actor for his starring role in “Oppenheimer”, said he is enjoying meeting colleagues and filmmakers he has admired for years: “I'm starting to talk socially with them. You don’t get to do that very often.”
Mark Ruffalo, nominated for best supporting actor for “Poor Creatures,” said he sees awards season differently now that he's a little older: “I'm at an age where I might not have many more of these moments, so I have I have to appreciate them differently than I have in the past.” He is 56 years old.
