Actor Jeremy Renner admits mistake for snowplow accident that almost killed him

Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner has said he was to blame for a snowplow accident on New Year’s Day that nearly killed him.

Renner, in an interview that aired on ABC on Thursday, said he was driving the machine after using it to pull one of the family’s trucks out of the snow and onto the sidewalk. He apologized to his family.

When the machine began to skid on the ice, Renner said he was concerned for the safety of his nephew, Alex, who had just released the chains connecting the truck to the snowplow. Renner put one foot out of the gear to look back and go after Alex, and he didn’t apply the handbrake.

The actor then lost his balance and fell out of the booth.

“You must not be out of the vehicle while operating, you know what I mean? It’s like driving a car with one foot sticking out of it,” Renner, sitting in a wheelchair, told ABC News journalist Diane Sawyer.

“But that’s what happened,” he added. “And it’s my mistake, and I paid for it.”
